irene trujillo villegas

Irene Trujillo-Villegas (Manizales, Colombia, 1991) is a Colombian artist living and working between Colombia and Barcelona. Irene explores her relationship with the act of remembering, creating imaginaries informed by the faded edges of memory, drawing from accents of everyday scenes or remote places. It is in these spaces that a terrain for interpreting experiences opens up, offering possibilities for communication between the past and present, between familiar and foreign worlds, intimate and collective scenes. Her work invites to pause. To read between the lines of the aesthetic possibilities of what we take for granted or overlooked. To notice the line, the dot, the fold, the crease, the shadow, the wrinkle, the hollow. Her work doesn't scream, in contrary subtlety calls for attention.

Irene works spontaneously, wandering through second-hand shops, dumps, abandoned lots, hardware stores, and antique fairs, where she finds artifacts (or fragments of them) that suggest ways of intervention. The medium does not determine the work, but rather adapts to the needs of each piece, allowing her to explore interactions between sculpture, installation, drawing, photography, and painting.

In addition to her visual work, Irene has co-founded several collectives in Mexico, France, Greece, and Switzerland with the aim of establishing cultural connections through common dialogues: food, movement, exploration of the environment, play, and presence are some of her topics of interest.
